The shape of a 14-team bracket
14 teams in a 16-slot bracket leave 2 byes, for seeds 1 and 2. The other 12 teams play 6 round-1 games: 8 v 9, 4 v 13, 5 v 12, 7 v 10, 3 v 14 and 6 v 11. After round 1, 8 teams are left and the bracket is full from there.
If the favourites win
In a favourites-win run seed 2 comes through the losers bracket (12 games) to meet seed 1 in game 26.
| Seed | Opponents if favourites win (game) |
|---|---|
| 1 | bye, then 8 (G7), 4 (G13), 2 (G19), 2 (G26) |
| 2 | bye, then 7 (G9), 3 (G14), 1 (G19), 3 (G25), 1 (G26) |
| 3 | 14 (G5), 6 (G10), 2 (G14), 5 (G23), 4 (G24), 2 (G25) |
| 4 | 13 (G2), 5 (G8), 1 (G13), 6 (G22), 3 (G24) |
How many games each team plays
The fewest games a team can play is 2: two losses and out. The most is 9, for a team that loses once in the winners bracket, then wins every losers-bracket game and both grand finals.
How long it takes
26 games at 30 minutes is 13 h of court time. No round has more than 6 games, so extra courts beyond that sit idle; the replayed final is not counted.
| Courts | Clock time |
|---|---|
| 1 | 13 h |
| 2 | 7 h 30 min |
| 4 | 6 h |
